Bread Wheels







Ingredients:
  • 1 kg white bread dough
  • 250 g bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion
  • 1 - 2 cloves garlic chopped
  • 1 cup grated cheese

Method:
  1. Preheat the oven to 200'C & grease a large baking sheet.
  2. Heat a pan over medium heat & lightly fry the bacon.  Remove with a slotted spoon & fry the onion in the rendered bacon fat until soft. 
  3. Flatten the bread dough slightly on a floured surface & roll out as thinly as possible.  Scatter the fried bacon & onion, garlic & cheese over the dough. 
  4. Neatly roll up the dough & cut into 3 cm thick slices.  Arrange the slices on their sides on the greased baking sheet & bake until well risen, brown & done.


Variation:  Add olives, diced red & green pepper, chopped piquante peppers & a handful of chopped parsley to the bacon mixture, & use as indicated in the recipe.
